چکیده :
عدد چهل(اربعین) در فرهنگ دینی و اسلامی، گستره معنایی وسیعی دارد.
مفاهیم خاص این عدد از گذشته نزد پیروان ادیان توحیدی وجود داشته و در فرهنگ اسلامی به صورتی خاصّ گسترش یافته است و در نهایت، در رابطه با قیام امام حسین(ع) به اوج خود رسیده و بار عاطفی ویژهای پیدا کرده و بر قداستش افزوده شده است؛ بهگونهای که در حال حاضر، اربعین حسینی، نقطه عطفی در جهان اسلام بهویژه جهان تشیع به شمار میرود و مفهوم این عدد را با انقلابی مواجه کرده است.
پژوهش حاضر با کاربست روش گردآوری اطلاعات کتابخانهای و استنادی و با استفاده از روش تجزیه و تحلیل محتوایی کیفی (توصیفی-تحلیلی) در صدد بررسی مفاهیم نمادین عددِ «چهل» (اربعین) در طول تاریخ با تأکید بر مفهوم این واژه در ارتباط با نهضت امام حسین(ع) است.
یافتههای پژوهش حاکی از آن است که اربعین نماد انتظار، آمادگی، آزمایش، تنبیه، مظهر کمال هر چیز و هر کاری است.
اربعین حسینی و تأکید بر آن، ارتباط وثیق و محکمی با سابقه این عدد به عنوان نماد تکامل و بلوغ دارد.
در این روز، مأموریت امام حسین(ع) و اهل حرم او در کربلا، کوفه و شام به کمال رسیده و آنان پس از سپری کردن حوادث تلخ و پشت سرگذاشتن وقایع سخت و دردناک، رسالت خود را در ارتباط با زنده نگه داشتن دین الهی به پایان رساندهاند.
اربعین در ارتباط با شهادت امام حسین(ع) نیز نماد کمال، بلوغ و رشد است.
مفهوم نمادین آزمایش و تنبیه در اربعین حسینی در رابطه با افراد غافل و بیتوجه به قیام سیدالشهداء(ع) مشهود است.

today, arba'in is considered a turning point in the islamic world, especially in the shiite world, and its concept has become intertwined with revolution.
this research, using the method of library and reference-based data collection and employing qualitative content analysis (descriptive-analytical), aims to examine the symbolic meanings of the number 'forty' (arba'in) throughout history, with an emphasis on its connection to the movement of imam hussein (a.s.).
the findings of the research indicate that arba'in symbolizes expectation, readiness, trial, punishment, and the manifestation of perfection in everything and every action.
the significance of arba'in and the emphasis on it have a strong and direct connection with the historical symbolism of this number as a sign of development and maturity.
on this day, the mission of imam hussein (a.s.) and his family in karbala, kufa, and shaam reached its fullness, and after enduring bitter events and overcoming difficult and painful incidents, they completed their mission of keeping the divine religion alive.
arba'in, in connection with the martyrdom of imam hussein (a.s.), also symbolizes perfection, maturity, and growth.
the symbolic concept of trial and punishment in arba'in, in relation to those who were heedless or indifferent to the uprising of the master of martyrs (a.s.), is evident.
