چکیده :
اسم اعظم از موضوعات مهم مورد بحث در عرفان اسلامی است، به‌گونه‌ای‌که در هر دو حوزة عرفان عملی و نظری به مباحثی از آن پرداخته شده است.
با اینکه عارفان تعاریف گوناگونی برای اسم اعظم گفته‌اند، به نظر می‌رسد فهم کامل‌تر حقیقت اسم اعظم متوقف بر امور دیگری همچون معیار اعظمیت، تقسیمات، مراتب، واژگان و احکام آن است.
عارفان در رابطه با معیار اعظمیت سخنی نگفته‌اند، اما می‌توان دو وصف «جمعیت» و «احاطه» را از سخنان آنان برداشت نمود.
در خصوص تقسیمات اسم اعظم، به مواردی همچون اسم اعظم تعریفی و تأثیری و نیز اسم اعظم مطلق، نسبی و در مرتبه و نیز اسم اعظم الوهی، وصفی و فعلی اشاره کرده‌اند.
دربارة مراتب اسم اعظم نیز چهار مرتبة حقیقت، معنا، صورت حسی عنصری و صورت لفظی و نیز چهار مرتبة حقیقت غیبی، مرتبة الوهیت، مرتبة مألوهیت و مرتبة لفظی را مطرح کرده‌اند.
در باب واژگان، به اسمائی همچون «الله»، «حی»، «قیوم» و «قادر» و نیز به برخی حروف و دربارة احکام هم به مباحثی همچون سریان اسم اعظم، علم به اسم اعظم، نقش اسم اعظم در استجابت دعا و رابطة متقابل اسم اعظم و سلوک اشاره کرده‌اند.

regarding the divisions of the supreme name, they have mentioned such things as the definitive and effective supreme name, as well as the absolute and relative supreme name.
in terms of the level of the supreme name, they have mentioned the divine, descriptive, and active supreme name.
regarding the levels of the supreme name, they have proposed the four levels of truth, meaning, elemental sensory form, and verbal form, as well as the four levels of unseen truth, the level of divinity, the level of worshipping the divinity, and the level of verbality.
regarding vocabulary, they have referred to names such as "allah," "hayy," "qayyum," and "qadir," as well as some letters.
regarding rulings, they have referred to issues such as the secrets of the supreme name, knowledge of supreme name, the role of the supreme name in answering prayers, and the mutual relationship between the supreme name and mystical journey.
